Part 2 (Tech), Step 4   - Build Your Tech

In the previous step 3, you should have drilled down on what tech needs to be done, and then made some decisions on what to DIY and what to outsource.

So Online Product Launch Tech Step 4 (using Kajabi) is to Build Your Tech.

This is therefore a super short post, because you've done the planning.

There's not much more to say other than to go get it built.

To VA or Not?

An option growing in popularity is to get yourself a Virtual Assistant (VA).

The whole VA thing is a little 'Wild West' because there are no rules or qualifications for calling yourself a VA.

And so the experience of those who use them can be very hit and miss.

My advice here is that if you want to consider a VA, then be hard nosed about performance and be prepared to churn through a few before you find the one who is just what you need.

To help you here:

1. Be as specific as possible about what you want done and by when. Don't start with something vague
2. Work out what each task is worth to you, and agree up front (at least when starting out) what the exact deliverables will be, by what date and the cost
3. Test someone out with an easily defined task and near-term date and see how they go
4. If they do well, then you may be able to release the shackles a little and put them onto more difficult assignments that are a little vaguer in deliverables.

As always, it depends on YOUR requirements.

The gold standard though, is to have a VA who can be creative in helping you problem solve a range of problems and not just be a robot to complete tasks.  Someone who can be very strategic and not just an extra set of hands.

These are how I see the levels of value, from a task completer VA at level 1, through to a kind of strategic partner and mentor at level 5: 

Level 1: task completer who follows instructions economically and on time in a specific skill set

Level 2: task completer who can provide solutions in more than one or two skill sets

Level 3: Someone who can provide creativity in terms of options for possible solutions across a range of skill sets, that also fits well with your style, voice and market

Level 4: Someone who has all the above, but also the experience to anticipate what you will need before you know it yourself, who can work semi-autonomously and always leaves you feeling like they are super reliable and have your back as you build your business.

Level 5: Someone who can manage large chunks of your business process and tech for you.  Who has a strategic focus and is a subject matter expert in all the essential fields to get your product launched (or has a network of support who can provide additional specialties when needed).

Levels 1 and 2 and maybe 3 can be considered applicable for VAs, but once you start getting into Level 4 and above, you are probably more talking about a Online Business Manager (OBM - who helps you manage your online business and launches) or Active Business Mentor (ABM - who provides both mentorship and problem solving, and who may have a financial stake in your business outcomes). 

What's Right For You?

You need to decide what's right for you right now (which may be different as you grow).

But I do suggest you get assistance and support of some kind.  It is almost impossible to have the success you dream of entirely on your own.
